Dr. Genieve Burley

Chiropractor · Founder of BNFTS

Genieve is a chiropractor, and has been in clinical practice for twenty-one years. She teaches internationally, and has spent a good part of that time explaining bodies to people who are not clinicians — on television, in print and online — usually on women's health, movement, and what it takes to keep moving well for longer.

Her argument for this clinic is one she has been making for years. Medicine has become very good at extending life without extending health: in her words, we have extended the length of life but mostly extended the time that we are sick. And the thing standing in the way is not access. It is that almost nobody has ever been told why you would see a naturopathic doctor, or an acupuncturist, or a clinical counsellor when you are not in crisis.

“I don't want you to need me. Because now we're working in reactive medicine.”

Our approach

Most people never use what they have already paid for.

Most working Canadians have extended health coverage, and most of it never gets claimed. A ten-year review of member claims by Great-West Life found dental claimed by just under 80% of eligible members — and physiotherapy by just over 15%. The gap is not money, and it is not willingness. Nobody ever explained why you would see a naturopathic doctor when your physiotherapy runs out, or what a clinical counsellor is for if you are not in crisis. That is the whole reason this clinic exists.

So we start by listening for an hour. Then we triage — what is most pressing, what will have the biggest effect on your life, and what your plan will actually pay for. If time or money is limited, we tell you where to spend it first. There is no upsell at the end of it.

How she works

An hour of being heard, then a plan you can actually afford

Heard, then seen

The first hour is conversation — your history, your work, how you sleep, how you move, what hurts and when. Only after that does anyone look at you clinically and say what they think is going on.

02
Triage, not a menu

You are not handed a price list and left to guess. Where there is a limit on time or money — and there usually is — we say what is most pressing and what will make the biggest difference to your life, in that order.

03
A partnership, not an authority

Her line on this is unambiguous: you are the expert on your body, the practitioner is the expert on the knowledge. You get told the reasoning and you make the call. First names, no white coats.

You should need us less

The measure of good care is that it ends. Anything that keeps you permanently dependent has quietly turned back into reactive medicine, which is the thing this clinic was built to get away from.

How we work

The goal is not for you to keep needing us.

You are the expert on your body. Genieve is the expert on what twenty-one years of clinical practice has taught her about bodies. Care works when those two things are in conversation — which is also why the practitioners here talk to each other about your case, with your permission, rather than working in parallel.

Most extended health plans reset on 31 December.

Whatever you have not used does not roll over. Tell us who your provider is and roughly what you have spent, and we will show you what is left and what it is actually worth booking before the year turns.
